BORER IN MILWAUKEE COUNTY
Details of Latest
Confirmation: An EAB larva was discovered in the City of Franklin on August
27. The larva was sent to federal identifiers on August 27, and subsequently
confirmed as EAB on August 28. City public works officials observed ash trees
showing signs of EAB, including D-shaped exit holes, on August 26. State
officials were notified, and survey specialists arrived on site to conduct
further evaluation with public works staff. A larva was found after
peeling the bark on a suspected tree.
Where Else Has EAB Been
Found in Wisconsin: The tree-killing emerald ash borer has been discovered so
far in seven Wisconsin counties, including the latest discovery in Milwaukee
County. The other counties are Brown, Crawford, Kenosha, Ozaukee, Vernon and
Washington.
Quarantined Counties: EAB quarantines currently
exist in Brown, Crawford, Fond du Lac, Kenosha, Ozaukee, Sheboygan, Vernon
and Washington counties. State and federal regulators are
considering quarantine for Milwaukee County and possibly neighboring
counties.
Media Availability: Staff from the City of Franklin,
DATCP and DNR will be available to answer questions and assist with story
gathering on Friday, August 28, from 2 p.m. to 3 p.m. at the location where
the larva was found. The location is at the intersection of West
Hilltop Lane and South 35th Street, near Southwood Glen Elementary
School, 9090 S. 35th St., Franklin, WI 53132.
