Wag the Dog blogger Bryan Maersch has taken out papers for the 2010 Spring Aldermanic Elections. Bryan lives in the 5th district, currently represented by Alderman Lyle Sohns. The taking out of papers this early poses several questions, at least from this vantage point:

That seems to be what's planned if I read County Supervisor Elizabeth Coggs' press release correctly. Coggs, who is the Chairwoman of the County Board's Finance & Audit Committee, stated it was necessary to avoid a tax levy increase of 3.85%. According to Coggs, the levy increase is now only at 0.43% thanks to the fees.

I spoke with a representative of the Franklin Firefighters Union about the upcoming 2010 budget and the situation the firefighters (and thus the residents of Franklin) are facing. According to the information provided, residents could be looking at longer response times and understaffed fire stations as a result of what's being (not) done with the budget.

This is the third installment of a series appropriately titled, "What are your neighbors talking about?" Franklin Today
receives many e-mails from residents in our community about a variety
of topics. Over the past several days, I have heard from many residents about sidewalks along 51st Street in front of Franklin High School.
To date, I have not heard anyone in support of what Alderman Olson and pal/State Senator Lazich's aide Kevin Fischer attempted to promote, which in my opinion was the savings of a buck or two in your wallet and in return the students and residents going to FHS would still put their lives at risk trying to get to the school on foot.
