With my desire to share the accomplishments of Franklin organizations, I wanted to congratulate the Saber Spirit Club and its members for generously supporting activities and athletics at Franklin High School via the yearly calendar raffle. Our family joined the Saber Spirit Club this year, and we intend to continue to be members of the organization for many more years to come. Anyone can become a member of the organization, which has a great website with a lot of information.
I recently spoke with Jan Coenen, President of the organization, who told me that the proceeds from the yearly calendar raffle have been posted online. Here are the many groups who were able to benefit from the sales:

The Saber Spirit Club Grant Committee met on Monday, December 14, 2009 to review grant applications. The Saber Spirit Club will be awarding $9,705.00 in grants this year.
The committee is pleased to award the following grants:
- Girls Volleyball: $1,000.00 for purchase of balls and bags
- Football: $1,000.00 for purchase of practice pants
- Boys Soccer: $750.00 for purchase of soccer balls and JV uniforms
- Girls Swim: $500.00 for purchase of video equipment
- Girls Tennis: $350.00 for purchase of balls and ball carrier
- Boys Tennis: $350.00 for purchase of balls and ball cart
- Pom Pons: $1,000.00 WACPC State Dance Competition transportation
- Baseball: $1,000.00 rebuild of pitching mound
- Girls Softball: $905.00 for purchase of helmet & equipment bags, practice balls, extension cord, and shinguards
- Boys Volleyball: $500.00 for purchase of balls and standards
- Saber Robotics: $200.00 building supplies for robot
- Best Buddies: $200.00 to cover activity and transportation costs
- Girls Cross Country: $450.00 for purchase of printers, massage sticks and stopwatch to be shared with Boys Cross Country
- Drama Club: $500.00 towards purchase of sound system
- Visual Arts Team: $400.00 to purchase materials for competition projects
- Boys Track & Field: $300.00 for purchase of spike kits, vinyl marking tape and resistance loops
- Girls Track & Field: $300.00 for purchase of stability balls, stopwatches, mats, powerballs and foam hurdles
Total $9,705.00
It's great to see almost $10,000 privately raised and going back into Franklin High School's many student organizations and athletics. Hopefully next year more Franklin families and residents will take part and help raise funds for a great cause.
